1962 Brigitte Bardot
In "A Very Private Affair," internationally famous Brigitte Bardot appears in her first picture for MetroGoldwyn-Mayer in a powerful story which, in some respects, ref3ects her own fabulous career.
Co-starred is the Italian actor, Mar-cello Mastroianni, who also has become a celebrated film personality, following his triumph in "La Dolce Vita."
The story concerns the rise of a fashion and photographer's model to screen stardom. She becomes Europe's highest-paid star and a sex symbol I or the world. But her life, highlighted by a succession of ill-fated love affairs and the relentless spotlight of publicity, is marked by tragic consequences.
"A Very Private Affair" was filmed in color and wide-screen on locations in Geneva, Switzerland; Spoleto, Italy; and Paris. It was produced by Christine Gouze-Renal, with Jacques Bar executive producer, and directed by Louis Malle.
This Really Happened
Brigitte Bardot's first Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer picture, "A Very Private Affair," unfolding the story of a girl who rises to fame as a motion picture star, in many respects mirrors Miss Bardot's

own fabulous career. For example, there is a scene in the film in winch the heroine, having achieved world-wide celebrity both for her acting and her off- screen romances, returns to her apartment. Walking into the elevator, she encounters a cleaning woman who, angered at what she has read in the gossip columns, hurls insulting invectives at Miss Bardot. This frightening episode once actually happened to the French star in real life, and she had no hesitancy in permitting it to be incorporated in the script of the new film.
